Governor Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday a partnership between California and Microsoft, which will distribute free vouchers for computer training.
Microsoft's "Elevate America" program will offer three different types of vouchers to California:
- General E-Learning Vouchers, which can be redeemed for free online training on one Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Office Suite program;
- IT Professional Learning Vouchers, which are intended for those who are IT professionals interested in acquiring advanced level skills; and,
- Microsoft Certification Exam Vouchers, which are designed to enable a person to pursue a no-cost exam to become certified in one Microsoft program, such as Excel, Word or Outlook.
The vouchers will be distributed by the California Employment Development Department through "One-Stop Career Centers."
According to the EDD's website, there are three "One-Stop Career Centers" in the Valley:
- Workforce Development Center at 44-199 Monroe Street in Indio;
- Win Youth Opportunity Center at 45-570 Grace Street in Indio; and,
- Institute for Sales and Service Excellence at 72-840 Highway 111 in Palm Desert.
