A school official says a 15-year-old boy was shot in the head by another student inside an Alabama middle school and is in critical condition.

Madison City Schools Superintendent Dee Fowler said no one else at Discovery Middle School was hurt. She says it's unclear what prompted the gunfire Friday afternoon.

Fowler says the accused shooter was arrested in the school, where police regularly are stationed

Madison, which is in northern Alabama, has about 38,500 residents. Many of them work in technology jobs related to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center at Redstone Arsenal.
