It was a sobering tribute Friday to a well known Coachella Valley political operative, Barry Nestande.
Hundreds gathered to say goodbye to Barry. From family members and friends, to political figures and members of the community-- it was clear to see Barry touched many lives.
"What I love about Barry are his values, his sense of community his love for his family and his love for everyone he represents here in the Coachella Valley," said Indio Councilmember Lupe Ramos Watson.
Barry came from a long line of politics, from his father Bruce to his brother Brian. But aside from politics, his family and friends said it was his wife and two sons that gave him the greatest joy.
"He found Merrilee, his partner his soul mate that he spent so much time searching for and then his pride and joy was born Brett and he always treated his stepson as if he were is own," said Barry's brother Brian Nestande.
Barry worked along side John Benoit since 2001. Benoit said Barry was like a brother to him.
"The thing I'll miss most and the most difficult thing is losing my best friend, said Riverside County Supervisor, John Benoit.
Barry is survived by his wife and two sons.
