It's a story that has had a lot of people talking on kpsplocal2.com

A dad, who lost his kids, accused of selling pot out of his home.

He said he didn't know he'd done anything wrong.

"Does this look normal? I was trying to have a mobile dispensary," said Thomas Prince.

34-year-old Prince of La Quinta said he didn't know he was doing anything wrong when he opened his medical marijuana business, Advance Alternative Caregivers.

But now he's living with the consequences. Bruises and scars from a flash bang grenade thrown near his home when the Sheriff's department served a search warrant early on the morning of June 16.

"All I heard was 'bang bang bang'," added Prince.

Prince was arrested around 4:30 a.m. at his home in the 45000 block of Bridgette Way after a narcotics-related search warrant was served, said Sgt. Mark Hoyt of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies seized two pounds of marijuana and a loaded gun from the home, Hoyt said.
Prince's two children, who are 2 and 4 years old, were turned over to child protective services, Hoyt said.

Prince now faces child endangerment charges and his two young kids remained with Child Protective Services as of Friday.

"I think this is excessive, I think they could have knocked on the door in the daytime and I would have let them in," added Prince.

He thought he was going by the books as he distributed marijuana to about 40 clients from his home.

"I'm trying to do something for my community and help people out," said Prince.  "I had cannabis for smoking, edibles for people that can't smoke."

But that's against the law in La Quinta.

"You're not allowed to have dispensaries in our jurisdiction," said La Quinta Planning Director, Les Johnson.

Prince's neighbor said the whole ordeal was scary and she doesn't want a dispensary in the community.

"I think it's a dangerous situation because we have a high school there's an elementary school too," neighbor Christine Smith said.

Prince was being held at the Indio Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.  Prince's court date is in August.
