About 200 people were trapped at the top of the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, tram officials confirmed to KPSP.
The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was closed for about two and a half hours due to technical difficulties, according to Public Affairs Manager Lena Zimmerschied said.
As of 1:45 p.m. though, the tram was "currently operating normally," Zimmerschied said.
It had been expected to be closed until at least 2 p.m. after being shut at about 11:30 a.m.
Zimmerschied said mechanics are investigating what caused the technical problems. She doesn't believe that wind caused the issue, but she "wouldn't rule it out" as a cause just yet.
The attraction on Mount San Jacinto, which opened in 1963 and was upgraded in 2000, lifts passengers from 2,643 feet above seal level to an elevation of 8,516 feet via cars running on more than 13,000 feet of steel cables, according to the tram's Web site.
