The Cathedral City Fire Fighters responded beyond the call of duty for their community, along with the Muscular Dystrophy Association at the 2nd Annual Fill the Boot event in Cathedral City, Friday and Saturday.
Cathedral City firefighters raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association once again, with their Fill the Boot campaign.
The firefighters managed to raise about $17 thousand dollars.
The 2010 figures surpassed last year's numbers by $6 thousand dollars.
The funds raised through this event will help to provide diagnostic and treatment services to over 6,000 MDA families in the Southern California area, as well as to fund research projects seeking a cure for the more than 40 neuromuscular diseases under its umbrella.
Funds raised at the Fill the Boot will also be used to send MDA children to summer camp for one week where they get to participate in specialized activities such as horseback riding and swimming.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide research.
The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. To find out more about the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Fill the Boot program, please call 949-251-0191.
