A 71-year-old man was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a SUV in Cathedral City Thursday morning.

The man was hit in the area of Shifting Sands Trail and Ramon, at around 8:20 a.m.  When police and fire units arrived on scene-- the man was still stuck under the vehicle.

He was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Police say the bicyclist was riding against traffic, which is illegal, according to Corwin DeVeas of the Cathedral City Police Department.

Though the bike rider was riding the wrong way, "witnesses came forward and stated the female driver of the vehicle may have ran the stop sign," DeVeas said, adding that is a contributing factor to the accident.

The driver was unlicensed and was cited for that offense, DeVeas said.  Her vehicle was impounded.

Bicyclists need to take some responsibility when they to are breaking the law. So I don't believe it is 100% the drivers fault even though she had no LICENSE.

The driver of the vehicle is 100% at fault, it is against the law to operate a motor vehicle without a drivers liscence.

The driver of the vehicle is 100% at fault due to the simple fact that the driver is unliscenced.
