Four kittens were placed in a bag and dumped near a Palm Springs Elementary School.

Two men, David Dixon and Paul Ortega, rescued the kittens, who they have since named Scooter and Dixie.  Dixon and Ortega said it was an uphill battle to get them healthy but well-worth every late night of meows to nurse them back to good health.

Scooter and Dixie were two of four kittens found inside a plastic garbage bag with a dirty diaper near Vista Del Monte Elementary School Sunday morning.  Their umbilical cords were still attached.

"My immediate reaction was I just wanted to get them inside and hopefully save them," Dixon told KPSP.

Ortega said he was really mad at the entire situation that he contacted the police.

With lots of love and care, Dixon and Ortega said the kittens got stronger each day. They plan to raise the kittens.

The police said they had no leads on who dumped the defenseless kittens but asked the public for their help. If you have any information you're asked to call Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP.

Police remind everyone not to dump animals. Instead bring them to your local animal shelter. Otherwise, you could face felony charges for animal cruelty.

Hopefully there is a good volunteer group at local animal shelter that helps these neo-natal kitties. Unfortunately this is not uncommon as many shelters do have a neo-natal foster program because of people that do this to unwanted kittens.

God bless David Dixon and Paul Ortega for rescuing these defenseless kittens. I can't even imagine how anyone could have thrown them out like garbage, in a bag and have 2 of those kittens die as a result. We need more people like David Dixon and Paul Ortega in our world.
