Spring isn't even here yet and drivers are ALREADY feeling pain at the pump!
Terrence Martin of Los Angeles was filling up when he noticed the rising prices. "Dang, that was different last week. That was really different last week," he said.
Gas prices typically climb as summer approaches and this year's are no different.
In fact, Gas rose about a dime over the last two weeks to a national average of $2.73 a gallon. That's almost eighty cents more than a year ago. And analysts predict the average could hit $3.00 a gallon by next month. Analysts say gas could reach $3.25 a gallon by July. Prices are expected to fall again as summer winds down.
So what's "driving" these higher prices? Jeffrey Spring, a AAA spokesman, says "there is the anticipation that demand is going to increase. Not just here in the country, but worldwide. And that's pushing the price of oil up."
While you may not be able to stop higher gas prices, you can outsmart them. Several websites list areas with the cheapest gas, like www.gasbuddy.com. Just type in your zip code and let your computer do the rest!
