KPSP Local 2 is proud to announce our transition to HD Digital over the air broadcasting the weekend of July 31st.

Update: Dish Network has informed us that KPSP Local 2 will not be available in HD until September 22nd.

It has been a long time coming and now after much negotiating with the FCC they have approved our application to broadcast in digital high definition. This will not only improve our over the air signal but it will also allow DirecTV and Dish Network the ability to receive our HD signal so they can then deliver it to you. This will be a "flash-cut" which means that we will turn off our analog transmitter channel 38 on Saturday, July 31st and by Monday, August 2nd we will power back up broadcasting in digital HD on channel 38.1.

5 Things you need to know:

  1. KPSP Local 2 ceased analog over-the-air (OTA) broadcasting on July 31st. Although this will not affect Time Warner Cable subscribers, it will affect Dish Network and DirecTV customers over the weekend of 7/31 and 8/1. This disruption is unavoidable while we install and connect our new digital transmitter.
  2. On August 2nd we will begin broadcasting in digital HD on 38.1 and you must have a digital ready TV or install a digital converter box in order to receive our new digital signal “over the air”. If you subscribe to Dish Network, DirecTV or Time Warner cable they will do this for you in their system.
  3. Digital converter boxes can be purchased at local retailers or online.
  4. If you already own a digital TV or digital converter box and you currently receive us over the air you will need to rescan the channels (after August 2nd ) in order to acquire our new digital HD signal. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions that came with your TV or digital converter box on how to scan for new channels.
  5. Your over the air antenna must receive UHF and you may need an outdoor antenna to insure a good quality signal. However the new digital average power is much greater than the old analog transmission so reception should be greatly improved.

Useful information:

In some areas of the Coachella Valley indoor rabbit ear antennas will not receive an adequate digital signal. The signal may be blocked due to the construction of your home so you may need to move your indoor antenna close to a window in order to receive an adequate signal.

Our transmitter is located at Edom Hill so orient the antenna so that it is pointing toward Edom Hill (Map of Edom Hill - From Google Maps). Adjust the antenna, and then wait about a minute. It takes time for the receiver to lock and decode the digital signal. Try this several times with the antenna pointed in different directions until you are satisfied with the picture quality.

If, after taking these steps, you are not able to receive our signal, you may be required to install an outdoor antenna. If you believe you need an outdoor antenna please contact a television service professional. You can locate one in the yellow pages under “Television Repair”.

16x9 Aspect Ratio

4x3 Aspect Ratio

The new high definition picture has seven times the resolution of standard definition TV, giving you a crisper, clearer picture. If you have an HD television you will notice that the aspect ratio will change from 4x3 to 16x9 giving you a better viewing experience.
