Neighborhood Crimetracker- August 26
Every week we look at some of the property crimes Valley police departments are working. We begin this week in Indio.
Where public information officer Ben Guitron said officers are on the lookout for taggers. Graffiti keeps popping up on Shields Road west to Jefferson. Most of the vandalism is taking place on the sides and fronts of buildings. Guitron reminds juveniles there is a curfew in effect in Indio from 10 p.m. until sunup Monday through Thursday. And 11 p.m. to sunup Saturday and Sundays. They do enforce it and first time offenders can be fined $100.
Crimetracker moves to La Quinta now and more graffiti reported. This vandalism could also be a hate crime. On the 77900 block of Tampico someone spray painted a Nazi swastika on a building. No arrests so far.
And a dangerous game being played near Highway 111 and Adams Streets. Police said male juveniles were seen pushing shopping carts into the street as vehicles passed by. Two of the three suspects have been caught. They were released to their parents and charges will be filed.
In Indian Wells, quick work by police stopped a parking lot car heist in progress. It happened in the parking lot of the Renaissance Esmerelda Hotel and Resort. A 19-year- old was spotted trying to steal a car. He took off running but was caught by an officer. He's charged with attempted vehicle burglary.
And we wrap up Crimetracker in Palm Springs. A home broken into on the 600 block of n. Belardo Road. No forced entry was reported, but whoever broke in got away with a laptop
