Every week we look at some of the property crimes Valley police departments are working. This week, we know the heat is on, because beer theft seems to be on the rise.
Let's get started in Thousand Palms. Wonder how many cold ones a thief managed to put away before police arrested him? The male suspect entered a Chevron station at 72276 Ramon road and made off with two eighteen packs of Budweiser, you know, the King of Beers! The 18 year old guzzler was caught and charged with commercial burglary.
We'll leave the beer beat for a minute and head over to Cathedral City where residential burglaries kept officers busy. A front door was entered on a home on the 30100 block of San Joaquin. A swamp cooler was taken.
And thieves used a side window to gain entry to a home on the 30000 block of Avenida Alvera. A television and jewelry were taken here.
More suds capers, this time in Palm Desert. A 20 year old Palm Desert woman arrested for burglary. Police say the woman committed a beer run from the Walgreens at 44840 Hwy. 111. She was arrested as she ran with the brew towards her car.
Also in Palm Desert, police looking for a very young purse snatcher. Eyewitnesses say a boy who appeared to be about 12 grabbed a purse from an elderly female outside the Fisherman's Market restaurant at 44250 Town Center Way. Police established a perimeter around the area, but so far no arrests.
And we wrap up Crimetracker in La Quinta with, you guessed it, another beer heist! An 18 year old stole one beer from the Wal Mart store at 79295 Hwy 111. He should have stopped there, but as I said, it's hot out and he was thirsty. Police say he returned to the store and, this time, ripped off a mini keg. Tried to get away from officers, but have you ever tried to run carrying a mini keg. Another win for the cops. Beer lover headed to the cooler.
