A moderate earthquake struck early Monday morning off the coast of Baja California but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The U.S. Geological Survey had said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 5.0, but it was later downgraded to a 4.4.
It struck just before 6:20 a.m. Monday and was centered about 13 miles offshore of Rosarito in Mexico and 18 miles from Imperial Beach in California.
A dispatcher from the San Diego Sheriff's Department said the quake was felt in San Diego but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
People reported feeling the ground shake as far north as Escondido.
A 3.6-magnitude aftershock centered about a mile from the site of the first temblor occurred at 6:43 a.m., the USGS reported.
