With Valentine's day this weekend, Feb. 14th-- it's probably a good idea to start thinking about your sweetheart if you haven't already.
If you'd like to do something, but don't want to spend a lot of money -- don't worry... we've got you covered.
Here's some inexpensive but meaningful ways to celebrate the holiday.
- Hit the dollar stores for candy, candles, cards, gift bags, balloons and other decorations.
- Make dinner at home -- several grocery stores in the area, including Albertson's and Trader Joe's offer complete gourmet dinners for two for $20 or less.
- At Trader Joe's, not only can you get dinner for two for $20, but that will include $1.99 bottle of wine and a $3.99 bouquet of flowers with roses.
- Take an inexpensive bottle of champagne, mix it with smashed up strawberries, strain it into champagne class -- you'll end up with a beautiful pink champagne for Valentine's Day. Add a sliced strawberry on the side in the shape of a heart -- just slice the strawberry from top to bottom.
- Melt down chocolate chips in the microwave -- the same chips you'd buy to make chocolate chip cookies -- and dip cherries or strawberries in the chocolate for a great Valentine's Day treat. The trick is in the chocolate chips, as a chocolate bar won't melt and harden around the fruit as will the chips.
- Do something for your valentine that you normally wouldn't do, such a chore they normally do, or something you've been meaning to fix or build around the house.
- Buy little Post-It Notes, write love messages on them and post them around the house for your valentine to find.
- Rent a movie you know your valentine has been wanting to see -- after desert, pop some popcorn and enjoy the show.
