Some roadwork was being conducted on Interstate 10 on Thursday, that was causing some delays for drivers.
The California Department of Transportation was continuing their work patching potholes and fixing damaged pavement along I-10. Similar work was done a couple weeks ago-- and caused a traffic backup for several miles, turing some people's normal five minute commute into a 50 minute nightmare.
Caltrans is using more than $200,000 in emergency funds to fix the storm damage, and advised drivers of the following lane closures for Thursday, Feb. 18: (The work has been scheduled for Wednesday, but may be delayed if it rains. KPSP will update this story as necessary.)
- I-10 eastbound, #3 lane closed from one mile west of Cook to one mile east of Washington
- I-10 eastbound at Washington St., On & off ramps closed periodically from 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- I-10 eastbound at Jackson St., #3 lane closed and On ramp closed, 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- I-10 westbound at Jefferson St., #2 & 3 lanes closed, 5:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Caltrans has warned drivers to expect delays in these areas when the work is being done. Some detours that you may want to consider if you need to drive in the area are:
- For the Washington St. closure on the eastbound 10: Use exit to the west, Cook St. Or exit to the east, Jefferson. Both connect to Varner, to the north of the freeway.
- For the Jackson St. on ramp closure: Use Monroe or Golf Center Pkwy-- Golf Center will likely have less traffic.
- For the Jefferson St. closure on the Westbound 10: Exit Monroe, go north to Ave. 42 and head west, Ave. 42 will turn into Varner at Jefferson. Or exit Washington Street and go north to Varner.
