The promise of cooler temperatures this Labor Day means a new season is just around the corner! Desert dwellers who survived yet another scorching summer are counting down.
"I'm excited! Hopefully it's going to be a good season for all of us," said Maya Miranda of Cathedral City who says she's thrilled to say goodbye to August. "We've had a good week, good weather; it's nice!"
KPSP Local 2 caught up with Miranda walking down El Paseo, past the brand new El Paseo Village. Four shops are now open, including Juicy Couture, Kate Spade Janie & Jack, and Bebe. The rest of the shops, including Apple, are expected to open by Saturday, with the exception of Lucky Brand and Mastro's Steakhouse. "I'm excited about the shopping," said Miranda. "Hopefully it will generate more business down here."
Down the street, Cafe Des Beaux-Art will reopen Friday, September 3rd, following it's annual summer break. "I think it's going to be getting better," said owner Didier Bloch. While the restaurant was closed in August, the restaurant got a new bar and fresh look. "We have a small bite menu, happy hour prices" said Christy Bloch. "Hoping to get more people that way during this economic time."
The Blochs say they're feeling optimistic ahead of this Fall. "Business should get better," said Didier. "It seems like we're on the right way."
