Nearly one million dollars worth of marijuana that police think was brought to the United States by the Mexican drug cartel, has been seized from an Ontario home, it was announced Thursday.
Approximately 1,300 pounds of the drug were recovered Wednesday from the house located in the 1600 block of G Street, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department said.
Investigators say they think the marijuana was grown in Mexico and that it was destined for distribution across the county. They made the bust via a tip that let the department know about the massive amount of drugs at the location.
"Mexican drug cartels are clearly transporting drugs across our southern border and we are working diligently to keep them out of our county." said Sheriff Rod Hoops.
Authorities found the drugs wrapped up in 211 plastic packages, distributed throughout two cars parked at the house and inside the home. They also found "scales, packaging materials and documentation known as pay owe sheets indicating narcotics sales," the Sheriff's Department said.
Four suspects were arrested at the house and were booked at the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga, which is about 65 miles west of Palm Springs.
