The Berger Foundation presents $25,000 to Friends of Indio Senior Center (CV Strategies, 2011)

The mission of the Indio Senior Center is to provide a positive atmosphere that meets the social, recreational and educational interests of mature adults.  The center provides a place where people, 50 years plus, can leisurely socialize, make new friends, share their skills and ideas, learn new things and gather information.

KPSP Local 2 and the Berger Foundation present the Coachella Valley Spotlight, a celebration of the good work being done by one of the many local non-profit charitable organizations that serve our Desert communities.

Each group recognized by the Coachella Valley Spotlight will be the subject of numerous news stories as well as public service announcements and features on kpsplocal2.com that will tell you more about their work and what you can do to get involved to help support these wonderful local organizations.

We hope you enjoy this new program that focuses on positive stories and shines a bright light on why life in our Desert paradise is so special.

DEAR EYE ON THE DESERT, IN YOUR SPOTLIGHT ON THE INDIO MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM, THERE WAS A STATEMENT MADE IN THE INTRO TO THE SPOTLIGHT SEGMENT THAT WAS INCORRECT. INDIO MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS ARE NOT THE ONLY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM DELIVERING MEALS IN THE COACHELLA VALLEY. JOSLYN CENTER’S MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM ALSO HAS ALL VOLUNTEER DRIVERS. IN ADDITION, OUR VOLUNTEER DRIVERS ARE TRUE GIVERS FROM THE HEART, BECAUSE THEY GET NO REIMBURSEMENT FOR THEIR GAS, MILEAGE OR TIME SPENT DELIVERING MEALS. IN ADDITION, WE HAVE 35 INDIVIDUAL DRIVERS EACH WEEK DELIVERING MEALS. WE WOULD APPRECIATE THIS CORRECTION MADE PUBLIC, AS MY PHONE HAS NOT STOPPED RINGING FROM OUR UPSET VOLUNTEER DRIVERS THAT WATCHED YOUR SPOTLIGHT SEGMENT ON THE INDIO MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAM. FOR YOUR INFORMATION, THE JOSLYN CENTER’S MEAL ON WHEELS PROGRAM IS FUNDED TOTALLY BY DONATIONS AND GRANTS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. ROBERT ELIAS, Ed.S. DIRECTOR OF SOCIAL SERVICES THE JOSLYN CENTER 760-340-3220
