Two intruders entered a home near Indio through an unlocked slider door Friday, but were scared off by a resident who fought with one of the would-be robbers, a sheriff's deputy said.
The attempted robbery was reported at 5:15 a.m. in the 81300 block of South Palo Verde Drive in an unincorporated area of Indio, said Deputy Herlinda Valenzuela of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The suspects entered through the sliding door, but a man inside was already awake, Valenzuela said.
"One of the suspects was confronted by a resident inside the location and they were involved in a brief struggle,'' in which the resident suffered a minor cut in the eye area, she said.
The suspects, who did not appear to have weapons, drove off in a silver SUV at a high rate of speed, according to the deputy.
One of the suspects was described as 6-foot-1 and around 160 pounds, wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt, black ski mask and black gloves.
His companion was wearing all black clothes, but a further description was not available.
